FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU THAT YOU CAN HELP THESE LADIES?

I have been a big supporter of these tribal weavers, volunteering for their sales events way before I moved to the UK. These tribal folk are the last nomadic hunter-gatherers in the Malaysian rainforest. These women face a lot of hardships, they live in extreme poverty. This is the main reason and purpose I have chosen to help, support and market their beautiful handwoven basket bags beyond Malaysia.

HOW DOES IT HELP THEM?

The sales from selling their basket bags frees them of poverty. Empowers them to lead better lives. They can educate their children, afford decent health care and more importantly feed their families. Truly Batique are not their only resellers, they have others too but mostly within Malaysia. We are very proud to bring them to the UK and sell them here. It has put a lot of meaning to Truly Batique's journey.

HOW DOES IT CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE?

Firstly weaving is an art form. It is also a dying art as its time and energy consuming. So being able to promote it and keep our generation of tribal weavers going at what they do best, makes the world happier. What more when we see the beautifully crafted basket bags they produce, with an array of colours.....it brightens our world!

WHY ARE THE BAGS MADE FROM PLASTIC STRAPPING TAPE?

We would love to have them made with Rattan, which is the traditional method used in those days. However, by using rattan it will take way too long to produce the basket bags as there is an intense process involved in softening the rattan. Also with deforestation, rattan can be scarce to find. Therefore strapping tape is the modern substitute! This tape makes the basket bag super durable, sturdy and washable too. Above all, it comes in an array of strikingly beautiful colours and designs. Hence, we’re putting a new spin on an age-old craft with these strapping tapes.

ARE WE A REGISTERED CHARITY OR LINKED TO A CHARITY?

NO we are not a charity. We are only a platform used to sell these beautiful hand crafted products. Sales from selling to Truly Batique and our customers assists these skilful artisans and their families in a variety of ways. Also we do not run a registered charity, collecting funds or food to be sent to these communities. We only sell artisan handmade goods directly to those who wish to buy it.
